Fewer Medicare Cost Plans in 2019

October 4, 2018

Medicare Cost plans are popular in Minnesota, but they are being phased out and will not be an option in most counties in 2019. If this change affects you, you should have gotten letters from your Medicare Cost plan provider about it.

If you have a Medicare Cost plan for 2018, it’s important for you to see if it’ll still be an option in 2019:

  • If Medicare Cost plans are still offered in your county in 2019, you can probably keep your plan.
  • If Medicare Cost plans stop being offered in your county in 2019:
    • You might be automatically switched to a Medicare Advantage plan if you do nothing. You should have gotten a letter about this; or
    • You can choose to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan for 2019; or
    • You can choose to switch to Original Medicare for 2019.

The Minnesota Department of Commerce has detailed information about this transition away from Medicare Cost plans.
